Intro:

In our North American culture, when we are troubled because someone we love has passed away, whether the person believed in Jesus or not, it is not uncommon to say, “He has gone to a better place” or “She has gone to a better place.” The language comes from John 14, one of the most frequently read and beloved biblical texts.  

When we pause to consider this statement, “they’ve gone to a better place,” we realize it is a massive affirmation. We are talking about eternal destiny. The stakes could not higher.

Today, many would say we don’t need Jesus to get to the better place. One of the most common affirmations is: “All religions lead to God. They all basically teach the same thing.” Does this statement reflect reality?
