Your Story, God’s Story

Today’s text reads a bit like the plot of a Pixar animated movie. The story line and humour in Pixar movies always has two levels; first is the simple face value level that children of all ages can understand and enjoy, the second is the adult level with multiple cultural references: pop culture callbacks, lines from other movies, character references, and popular humour. The kids enjoy the movie at face value while parents enjoy the movie on both levels. The Bible often works the same way, there is truth and application at face value in a text and often there is a bigger story being told of God’s work in the world and in our lives. We can miss the bigger story if we don’t know or look for God’s work in history or the trajectory He is drawing and laying out for human history.
