“E Category” ESL classes are taught in English, and students from all language backgrounds are welcome! Our aim is to help you learn English using themes common to day-to-day life. We do this through reading, listening and speaking, and occasional writing.

ESL Class - E Category

E1 Introductory

Who is it for? 

The Introductory class is for students who have little or no English language background. 

What will I learn? 

In this class you will learn vocabulary, basic spelling, and pronunciation skills. After that, you will be introduced to simple English conversational phrases and sentences.

You will be able to understand greetings and introductions of 1-2 turns and understand very simple information about familiar topics such as time, money, and transportation.

You will also learn how to provide very basic personal information in response to direct questions from a listener and express simple written ideas and feelings. Part of each class will be spent reading from the Bible.

E2 Beginner

Who is it for? 

The Beginner class is for students who are able to understand and speak simple English sentences. 

What will I learn? 

In this class you will learn the parts of speech and basic grammar such as simple present, simple past and present continuous. You will learn vocabulary and phrases related to daily routines, and you will practice having simple conversations of around 5 turns and following instructions of about 2-4 steps.

You will also be able to describe some familiar objects, persons and experiences in a few short sentences. Part of each class will be spent reading and learning from simple Bible stories.

E3 Intermediate

Who is it for? 

The Intermediate class is for students who are able to have life skill conversations in English and know the parts of speech.

What will I learn? 

In this class you will learn idioms and higher levels of grammar, such as present perfect, conditionals, prefixes and suffixes in order to build a good understanding of the English language. You will handle moderately complex social exchanges, directions and instructions of 9-10 steps. You will engage in small group interactions and discussions on familiar topics. 

You will be able to understand descriptive or narrative texts of around 3-5 paragraphs, and write 1-2 connected paragraphs to relate a familiar sequence of events, a story, or a detailed description. You will verbally participate in meaningful secular and biblical discussions.

E4 Advanced

Who is it for? 

The Advanced class is for students who are already able to read, listen, speak and write English sentences and paragraphs, and who can communicate in common everyday conversations reasonably fluently. 

What will I learn? 

In this class you will learn how to understand a range of complex formal and informal communication on a variety of general topics at a normal rate, whether face-to-face, on the phone, or via digital media. 

You will be able to confidently communicate in social, educational, professional and other general topics. In addition, you will be able to write formal and informal texts for a range of purposes and tasks in routine but demanding situations. You will verbally participate in relatively complex discussions on secular and spiritual topics.
