Biblical Generational Mentoring is a facet of discipleship providing a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen, while actively investing in the life of a younger disciple, encouraging them to walk and grow in obedience as a follower of Christ.
Do I have to be a member?
Yes.
Will there be an application and vetting process?
Yes. There is an application and vetting process to ensure consistency within our mentorship resourcing procedure. There will also be an interview and standard criminal check, which is common for sensitive volunteer positions such as this.
If I am already mentoring someone, should I sign up for this mentoring program?
Yes. We would like to know who you are and be able to support and resource you.
How many people am I able to mentor at once?
It is one-on-one mentoring (not group mentoring) and should be comfortable for your schedule. We don’t want you to over-commit, but also realize that people can mentor more than one person at a time.
Who will I be mentoring?
Men with men; women with women. You will be matched based on your application and the application of a mentee. We have a discernment committee that will prayerfully consider each applicant.
What age ranges will I be expected to mentor?
There are mentees of all age ranges, and we will be pairing up mentors accordingly. However, if you prefer a particular age range, we will definitely accommodate.
Can we sign up as a couple for mentoring?
Couples are encouraged to serve, but it will be as individuals. This is not marriage mentoring, and if you are interested in marriage-related volunteer opportunities, please connect with Pastor Isaac.
When can I start mentoring?
We are planning on pairing people in September.
Will there be a check-in process as mentors?
We will be following up on a regular basis, and we encourage you to reach out often and as needed.
What support will mentors be getting from the church?
Prayer. Also, group sessions and one-on-one interaction as needed.
How big of a commitment is mentoring?
Depends on your availability and the needs of your mentee. Often you will get together more often at the start (when you get to know each other), and then it becomes more flexible as time goes on.
What books do you recommend we read?
The Bible. This is not a prescribed, formatted program. Mentoring is an organic growth process in which we develop trusting relationships guided by biblical principles. This is not counselling or advice-giving, and there are support resources available should the need arise.
