I Believe in Total Depravity

Jeremiah 5:1-13

The doctrine of total depravity – that all people are inherently sinful and that this sin permeates every aspect of our being – is not the most popular of Christian doctrines. The mantra of our age is, “I’m okay, you’re okay.” And yet, this doctrine is easily verifiable by both Scripture and experience. G.K. Chesterton once said that this is the one Christian truth that could be verified by observation anywhere in the world, any day of the week. While focusing on our depravity may not seem like the cheeriest of thoughts, it not only helps us understand our behavior but also allows us to understand God’s grace.
