III John 1:5-8

3 John is a brief personal note written to encourage an elder named Gaius. It was the practice of the time for travelling teachers to go from city to city, sharing the Gospel. As they went from place to place, believers were instructed to open their homes and show loving hospitality to those who taught the truth and were not in it for their own gain. Gaius was a man whose life was an example on how to treat these teachers.
Notice what verse 7 says about these travelling teachers: “For they have gone out for the sake of the Name”
