A friend once said to me, “If you want to understand a culture, observe where the people look for healing and you will understand something profound about what they truly believe.” As human beings, we are concerned about our well-being and the well-being of those around us. We invest considerable resources in relation to physical healing: nutrition, physical exercise and medical services. Does our understanding of healing embrace all of life? When you and I are not well (physically, emotionally, relationally, spiritually), where do we look for healing? To whom do we entrust our lives and the lives of those we love?
