Sometimes we receive good counsel or teaching, but the instruction we have received actually raises more questions. In Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he has reminded the Galatians that they are justified (declared righteous) before God through faith in Christ alone. And, by faith in Christ, they receive the promised Spirit who is the sign of a person being in God’s family. This is the core of the gospel message.
But, the Galatians respond, “If we are justified by faith, what is the purpose of the law? Why was it given if God knew that people would never be able to live up to it? What was its function in the life of God’s people? Why did we have to go through all that?
Have you ever gone through something for an extended period of time and asked the Lord, “Why?”
