I Peter 1:1-2

Identity theft has been in the news this week. In our digital age, hackers can access our personal information: name, Social Insurance Number, passport number, address, credit card and bank information. Now, those details are important, but they do not define who we are.

Our identity is at the core of who we are. We are insecure in our identity when we exert effort to establish it. For example, we seek to secure academic standing, professional success, economic status, relationship status, citizenship, etc. We are working to be someone.

Everyone, at some level, struggles with the existential question, “Who am I?”  How does being a follower of Jesus ground and shape my identity in the real world?
