The Canadian national anthem will be sung across the nation this long weekend. Our anthem speaks of being the true north, rising strong and free, but it does not tell a story, maybe because a military battle was not fought to secure our independence.
The World Cup of soccer has finished its first round. The anthems of 32 nations have been heard. Some of these songs tell a story of battle for freedom. It’s interesting to hear the fans sing throughout the games. Many of the songs are songs of war. According to surveys, 80% of the fans believe they have an impact on the outcome of the games.
If you’re an English fan, you may find yourself singing a hymn or a chorus like, “Guide me, O Thou Great Redeemer", “When the Saints Go Marching In,” or “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” Is there a song for the ages, to be sung for all time?
