Build Solid!

Intro

If you are in a romantic relationship (or you remember being in one), you want the other person to know you are – your foundational values, your strengths, your life experiences. You don’t want them to be distracted by the time you got angry at your mother, or the time you did something very uncharacteristic and you don’t even know why you did it.

In a similar manner, during an election cycle, when we analyze a political party, we need to examine its foundational principles. In both Canadian and American politics today, critics attack the fringes of opposing parties and, in so doing, try to paint the entire opposition as fringe.

In the same way, when we study a religious faith, we need to examine its foundations. For example, if we want to understand Islam, we need to study the Koran and the life of the prophet Muhammad. It is not helpful to look at extreme movements like ISIS or Hamas.

When we think about the Christian faith, what is the foundation?

  1. The Only Foundation (Jesus Christ) – vs. 11
  2. Build Carefully (on the Foundation) – vs. 10-15
  3. Value the Building (the Temple of God) – vs. 16-17
