Who is your hero? My two grandsons would say Spiderman. They try to imitate him, with clothing and acts of heroism. He’s a hero for a four-year-old’s imagination, not a hero for life.
Throughout chapters 1-4 of 1 Corinthians, Paul contrasts human wisdom and power with divine wisdom and power. The way of human wisdom and power is one of pride, status seeking, and self-glorification. The way of divine wisdom and power is the way of self-sacrifice, thinking of others, and God-glorification.
Who do you seek to imitate? Are the examples that come to mind on the path of human wisdom and power, or the path of divine wisdom and power? Do they model Jesus for you?
As a spiritual father speaking to his children, Paul ends chapter 4 with a call to imitate him.
Questions for Reflection:
Can you and I say, “Imitate me”?
Who are our examples of the ways of Jesus?
Are we more talk than power?
