No passage in Scripture is more admired and, at the same time, more resented. Nowhere is the challenge of Jesus greater. Nowhere is the distinctiveness of the Beautiful Way more obvious. Nowhere is our need for the power of the Holy Spirit more compelling.

Matthew 5:38-48 challenges us to love those who insult us publically and treat
us unjustly. In this world seemingly controlled by those getting the upper hand, Jesus’ words sound strange and unattainable. Questions linger. We know Jesus is good and compassionate, but does He know how things work in this world? Are we actually to be perfect as God is perfect?
