How do you start your day? Do you prefer coffee or tea? I like tea, but I LOVE coffee – the aroma, the taste, the stimulation, the comfort! In the morning, coffee says to me, “It’s going to be a good day!!” And, many times, sharing a cup of coffee is a great way to be with family and friends. I’m not sure I could live without it!!
In verse 9, we read: “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” The word “fellowship” (koinonia) does not refer to drinking tea and coffee together. It can be translated “common-union” or “communal participation.”
Followers of Jesus share something in common. We have common-union with Jesus Christ, or we might say, common participation in the life of Jesus Christ. Everything we receive from God is through our union with Jesus. What is God’s purpose for followers of Jesus?
And, if we understand God’s truth woven into the story of his dysfunctional family, we will be encouraged to persevere with hope as God writes his story through our lives.
