In our day, the word empower is a popular word. We use it to refer to helping people become stronger or more confident in some aspect of their lives. Exercise programs, retirement plans, financial institutions, even libraries (e.g., Burnaby Public Library) use empowerment language to describe what they’re about. When we think about empowerment, we often think about ensuring our rights and becoming more independent. What does empowerment look like in the life of a Christ-follower? Is it any different from what happens in society around us today?
