Women's Ministry

Willingdon provides a place for women to grow with like-minded women who are walking together to better understand what it means to follow Jesus, be changed by Jesus, and lead others to Jesus. The Women’s Ministry is here to connect women to God and to each other.

The Ten Commandments – March 2nd – June 22nd

We started a new mini series titled “The Ten Commandments” at our most recent Women’s Gathering in March!  Together we will explore God’s heart through the commands and instructions he has given to his people and how we get to embrace them with our head, heart and hands.

The Ten Commandments give God’s children guidelines for worship and life. The first four commandments establish the guidelines for relationship between God and his children as they love and worship him. The six commands that follow establish guidelines for relationship between God’s people and how they treat each other to reflect God’s character.

Understanding God’s heart is for his people, including his daughters, is vital to know and love him with all that we are. This is true for women in all seasons of life as our knowledge of God continues to grow in the life-long journey of faith! The Ten Commandments are a great place to start – we get to uncover God’s heart through his guidelines for living.

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome” – 1 John 5:3

At our gathering in March, we joined Maria in learning about the context of the Ten Commandments, and heard about commandments one to four. During this upcoming gathering in May we’ll hear from Emmy and learn about commandments five to seven. We’ll learn about commandments eight to ten in June. Join us to discover the beauty of the Ten Commandments and how understanding them we can love God and one another with our head, heart and hands more fully!

The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:2-17 (ESV)

And God spoke all these words, saying,

Commandment 1

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

You shall have no other gods before me.

Commandment 2

You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Commandment 3

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

Commandment 4

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Commandment 5

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

Commandment 6

You shall not murder.

Commandment 7

You shall not commit adultery.

Commandment 8

You shall not steal.

Commandment 9

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Commandment 10

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.
