The Bible refers to adultery as the “great sin.” Let’s just admit that it is hard for us to understand. In our individualistic, North American society where the interests of the individual are, or ought to be, ethically paramount, where we say to ourselves, “What is good for me is what serves me.” It is hard for us to embrace any kind of restriction outside of our own desires. Why would it be called the “great sin” in Scripture?
