Seeing with God’s Eyes

Intro

On New Year’s Eve, we began this sermon series, “Shine Like Stars:  A Different Kind of Light,” where we must always begin, with Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Truly, we can do nothing of eternal significance apart from Jesus.

As we abide in Jesus and His Word, we receive His vision for our lives. God removes our blinders and we are able to see where and how we have made money and sex our idols. We are led to dethrone Mammon, put our trust in Jesus, trust him for provision, and give generously. We are led to find our identity in Jesus, follow him, and trust him with our relationships. We joyfully embrace his vision for marriage, sex, and family.

By abiding in Jesus and His Word, we see more clearly and farther. Apart from Jesus, our vision becomes too small, too limited, too self-serving. In the Scriptures, Jesus shared his vision with His church.  What is His vision for our Willingdon church family?

Reflection Questions:

  1. What aspect of the Willingdon Church vision is new for you? What excites you?

  2. How is Jesus inviting you to participate in the fulfillment of this vision?

  3. What are the next steps you need to take?
