Intro

Our passage today is the centerpiece of Matthew. Everything in chapter 1-16 has been leading up to the conversation in this text. Following this conversation, Jesus will begin His walk toward the cross in Jerusalem. The key question is, “Who is Jesus?” and a second, closely related to it and dependent on it, “Who are we?”  

We only know who we are when we know who Jesus is.

Who is Jesus? In Canada, responses would vary. A 2020 poll found that 73% of Canadians have a positive view of Jesus. Most would say He was a meek social reformer, a gentle moralist, a wise teacher, a sympathetic healer, a prophet, or one of the most influential voices in Western culture. Is that enough? Who was He?
